Welcome to low-protein.org

Hi, my name is Michael Truman. When my mother had to start a low protein diet a few years ago, I was surprised by how little information was available on the protein values of many common foods. Her doctor had provided her with a list of several dozen food items, and in searching the internet I was able to find a few hundred more. After that, there didn't seem to be much readily available useful information.

Eventually however I found the USDA Food and Nutrient Database and used it to assemble a protein dictionary containing the amounts of protein in over 6900 different food items. To make it easier to keep track of all this information I also created the ProteinTracker software program. I'm making this information freely available to you in the hope that it may be useful to you if you find yourself needing to follow a low protein diet.

Please feel free to contact me via email with any questions or comments.
